What to Wear To A Wedding
Wedding dress codes can be a minefield. Between black tie, lounge suits, morning wear and informal nuptials that don’t require any of the above, picking the right outfit can fluster even the best dressed men. Follow our guide to help you find your feet.
Black Tie
The recent trend for black tie weddings will likely mean that you have one or two to attend in the coming years, so it pays to invest in the right dinner jacket. Choose according to the event and the time of day; a midnight blue velvet version is an elegant choice for evening weddings, while a traditional black one is the perfect option for a daytime celebration. Accessorise with printed or colourful bow ties and pocket squares for a perfectly polished look.
Morning Wear
The most traditional weddings will call on the morning suit for guests, the groom and his groomsmen. Whether you pick a black or a grey jacket, it’s always wise to err on the side of caution and wear it with classic striped and grey morning suit trousers. Try not to go too overboard with accessories, and instead pick timeless black leather shoes, a tie in classic colours and a pale waistcoat for ultimate impact.
Smart Casual wedding
A smart casual dress code is confusing at the best of times, and most especially when it appears on the dress code requirements for a wedding. This commonly misunderstood dress code takes thought, but the best way to approach it is by starting smart: you can always remove a blazer or roll up a trouser hem if the room feels more casual. The ultimate smart casual outfit is a contemporary take on a deconstructed suit, with a lightweight and unstructured blazer as the centrepiece, paired with a classically casual Oxford shirt and a pair of slim fit chinos. Don’t be afraid to mix up colours and tones, either.

Outfit Ideas for Groom, Best Man & Groomsmen
If the idea of picking outfits for your own wedding is leaving you in a cold sweat, let us help. Of course, what you choose for you, your best man and your groomsmen will depend on the type of wedding that you’re having, but there are certain traditions worth noting.
The most traditional outfit for a groom is the morning suit, which is paired with classic morning trousers and a waistcoat and tie of your choice. What the groomsmen and best man wear is up to the groom: traditionally, if they are also wearing a morning suit, they’ll likely wear the same waistcoat (though different to the groom) or matching ties. It’s a nice touch to differentiate the best man by gifting him a different tie or waistcoat, so that it contrasts from yours as well as the other groomsmen. You’ll also need to consider a boutonniere, which are the flowers that sit in the buttonhole of all members of the groom’s party. These will be matched to the bride’s bouquet and the groom will have the largest, followed by the best man and then the rest of the party. A boutonniere should always be worn on your left side, so that it sits just above your heart.
