WHO: Tom Bishop & Jack Vereker, both 27
WHAT: Co-founders of El Rayo

“The one piece of advice I would give anybody is to trust their own instincts.” Tom Bishop

For HKT’s newest collection, we’re spotlighting a curated selection of London’s most unique and creative entrepreneurs. These are the men of tomorrow who are leading their generation through change and innovation. Next in the series are Tom Bishop & Jack Vereker, founders of El Rayo tequila.

THE IDEA

The idea for El Rayo was concocted on a Thursday night in Peckham when Tom and Jack decided to tuck into a neglected bottle of tequila that Tom’s brother had brought back from Mexico. The boys were instantly hooked, leading them to set about on a voyage of discovery to find a brand that they could truly engage with. A year of research in Mexico’s Jalisco led them to finding the perfect components to help make their own tequila and soon after, El Rayo was born.

“We wanted to do something that was going to celebrate contemporary Mexican culture.”
Tom Bishop

THE COMPANY

Tom and Jack are keen for the masses to fall in love with tequila the same way they did, and have developed El Rayo to bridge the gap between a cheaper, less distinguished bottle and something more exclusive and overpriced. The result? A premium, 100% agave tequila inspired by the contemporary culture of modern Mexico.

“Things take time. Don’t launch a business until you’re ready, until you have a great plan.”

THEIR STYLE

Casual is key for both Tom and Jack who favour elevated everyday basics over formalwear for work. Oxford shirts, round neck jumpers, jeans and statement accessories, such as the failsafe cotton cap, are all regular features in both men’s wardrobes - and for good reason.
